EDITORIAL-4

The 4th issue of e-Bulletin enjoys the distinction of being a Special Bulletin focusing on a Global event – 2nd Global Vendor 2003. The event was organized from 20th February to 23rd February 2003 and commenced with the auspicious blessings from Hon’ble Union Minister of State for SSI , Respected Shri Tapan Sikdar. Many of our Our Business friends, Well Wishers, Entrepreneurs, prospective Entrepreneurs, Research Associates and Students besides Foreign Diplomats & Business Visitors have visited the programme. We, as part of our endeavor, through this edition of e-Bulletin, wish to keep all our subscribers informed about the series of important events and their impact, which they will surely find interesting.

Message by Hon'bl e Minister

“It gives me immense pleasure to learn that Small Industries Service Institute is organizing the 2nd Global Vendor 2003 – Exhibition-cum-Vendor Development Programme from 20th to 23rd February 2003 at Mumbai. The Small Industries Sector is the backbone of a country’s economy and such exhibitions will not only pave way for economic development but also boost the confidence of the small entrepreneurs. I am sure the detailed participation in the programme will benefit the sector significantly. 1st Day : 20th February, 2003 -- Inauguration

The 2nd Global Vendor 2003 – An exhibition-cum-Vendor Development Programme was inaugurated by Shri P.K. Goyal, Industrial Advisor (Anc), Office of DC (SSI), New Delhi. The other Dignitaries present were Shri Vijay Kalantri, President, AIAI, Shri R.P. Abrol, President, Bombay Small Scale Industries Association, Shri Paresh Mehta, President, BIA, Shri Karthik Alai, G.M., SIDBI (WR) and many others. Er. P.K.Mukherjee, Director, SISI, Mumbai, welcomed the Dignitaries and Guests.
 
On the very first day, the Trade Commissioner of Republic of Russia and a Twenty member Delegation from Nepal paid a visit to the exhibition and showed keen interest in business tie ups with SSI units.

2nd Day : 21st February, 2003 -- National Vendor Development Seminar

The objective of the seminar was to explain SSI entrepreneurs the procedure of Vendor Development in Govt. Departments. Shri Girish Bhatnagar, Controller of Stores, Central Railway was present as the Chief Guest. The other dignitaries graced the occasion include Shri S.B. Khalsa, HRO, ONGC, Mumbai, Shri P.K. Goyal, Industrial Advisor, O/O. DC (SSI), New Delhi, Shri P.K. Mukherjee, Director, SISI, Mumbai.The senior officers of DGQA, Bangalore, Central Railway, Western Railway, MTNL, NTPC, BHEL, CISF explained the scope for Vendor Development and Procedures etc. to nearly 150 SSI entrepreneurs who actively participated in the Seminar

3rd Day : 22nd February, 2003 -- Seminar on Indian SMEs on Global Outsourcing

H.E. Mr. C. Baetae, Dy. Head of Mission, GhanaHigh Commission, inaugurated the seminar. H.E. Mr.Mehedi Alrowdhi, Consulate General of Republic of Yemen, H.E. Mr.Sailesh Ramchuran, Consulate General of Mauritius, H.E. Mr.Marek Moron, Consulate General of Poland, Mr. Y.P. Trivedi, President, Indo-African Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Shri P.K. Goyal, Industrial Advisor, Govt. of India and Shri P.K. Mukherjee also graced the occasion.

 

The Technical Session was aimed at giving guidance on Global Outsourcing and Joint Ventures H.E. Mr.Ahmed Obaid, Vice Counsel, Royal Consulate Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,  Mr. Ganeshraja, Country Manger, Bahrain Economic Development Board, Bahrain, H.E. Mehedi Alrowdhi, Consulate General of Republic of Yemen, Dr. R. Chandran, Vice-President, COMESA and SADC, and Ms Sunanda Rajendran , Secretary General,  Indo-African Chamber of Commerce & Industry addressed in the Technical Sessions.
SUMMARY OF EVENTS
The four days were full with hectic activities in business promotion sector. They witnessed 65 SMEs displaying their capabilities to meet the requirements of large scale industries and Government Departments like Defence, Railways, ONGC, MTNL, VSNL for Vendor Development. More than 3000 components, spares and sub-assemblies, light engineering works, sheet metal, electric and electronic items, plastic, rubber, chemical, foundry items, packaging materials etc. were on display.  It was very interesting feature to see Indo African Chamber of Commerce and Industries actively involved in displaying their various services and products. More than 4000 business visitors made their visit during the 4 days, resulting in enquiries of Rs.4.5 crore business opportunities. The Business Delegates from Nepal, Russia, Ghana, Poland, Yemen, Mauritius, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain visited the Exhibition. 
BENIGN VISIT OF RESPECTED AS&DC(SSI) SHRI SURESH CHANDRAJI, IAS
The mega event was concluded with visit of SIDO supremo Respected Additional Secretary & Development Commissioner, Small Scale Industries, Shri Suresh Chandra, IAS, Respected Shri Chandraji was the Chief Guest for the valedictory function.In his address, he complemented SISI, Mumbai for taking initiative in organizing the successful event which is going to benefit Indian SMEs in securing big marketing orders. Shri Venkat Subramanian, CEO, CGFTSI, Shri R.P. Abrol, President, BSSIA, Shri Paresh Mehta, President, BIA, Shri P. Rudran, CGM, SIDBI, Shri P.K. Mukherjee, Director, SISI and Ms. Rupa Naik, Executive Director, AIAI were also present for the valedictory function. Shri Chandraji distributed certificates and trophies to the top 3 exhibitors for their outstanding skills in attending enquiries and displaying exhibits in the exhibition.

SUCCESS STORY OF SISI TRAINEE

Mrs. Vasundhara Mahajan has attended Entrepreneurship Development Programme conducted by SISI Mumbai, in the year 1997.  She is first generation Entrepreneur,she selected a project on Food Processing particularly syrups & squashes.  After attending the training she left her job from High Court & started a SSI Unit at Dahisar.  The Unit is registered with the State Directorate of Industries and has also obtained FPO Licence. Her Unit has also achieved a turnover of Rs.6.00 Lacs,she has expansion plans for jams, sauces and ketchup. She always remembers Officers of SISI, Mumbai for giving motivation and providing guidance for Technology and Information on Registration and obtaining Licenses etc.
